A Day at the Spa Is Great Stress Relief

Like many people today, I live a very stressful life and when I am not at work, I am always busy caring for my two young children. One day, I decided to get a massage at a local spa to ease my sore, aching muscles. Once I entered the salon, I realized they had a great half-day package deal that also included a manicure, pedicure, and a body wrap. I decided to go for the package and I found the experience very relaxing. My stress virtually melted away and I now take time to visit the spa every month to enjoy the package. In general terms, a massage is the manipulation and stimulation of muscles, joints, and other soft tissue in the body. A massage therapist uses their hands, fingers, arms, elbows, and sometimes feet to stroke, knead, and rub the different areas. It is meant to relax the patient, but it can also be beneficial to your health. Massage has been used to ease pain in sore muscles, help with the alignment of some joints, release toxins from the body, and help with depression and anxiety. There are many different type of massages, and each type may have its own techniques. Here is a bit of information about the different types of Asian massage therapy.

Shiatsu Massage

Shiatsu is a form of Japanese massage that involves the therapist kneading, stretching, and pressing with their hands and thumbs in a rhythmic pulsing manner. It is meant to relieve stress and pain and help with depression. You do not need to remove your clothes for this massage, and the therapist will not use any massage oil even if you choose to remove different pieces of clothing. 

Thai Massage

A Thai massage is much more active than many other forms. The therapist will knead, stroke, and press the same as most other types. However, they will also move your limbs and joints, almost like passive range-of-motion exercises. This is a very good massage to have done if you need to increase your flexibility and circulation to different limbs or areas. It will also relieve stress and anxiety as well as increase your energy levels. It is recommended that you wear loose-fitting clothes for a Thai massage session.

Jin Shin Jyutsu

Jin Shin Jyutsu is basically a combination of massage and acupressure. The therapist will stroke along a limb or your back to find the correct pressure point to help you. Once the find the spot, they will press into the area with their thumbs or elbows. The pressure on the right spots will relieve stress, anxiety, and depression while releasing toxins and improving your overall health.

Korean Massage

Korean massage therapy could be considered the combination of a deep-tissue massage, Jin Shin Jyutsu, Shiatsu, and Thai techniques. The therapist uses their hands, fingers, and thumbs to stroke and press on the different pressure points in the areas that are giving you the most trouble. They also move your limbs and stretch you into different yoga poses. This type of massage also pays a lot of attention to your hands. In addition, when working on your back, do not be surprised if the therapist uses their feet to be able to push harder and deeper. A Korean massage is done to relieve stress and anxiety while also helping to align your body's chakras to improve your health. It will also increase your flexibility and give you an energy boost.

Chi Nei Tsang

Chinese Taoists have used Chi Nei Tsang massage for centuries in order to improve a person's health. It is a form of deep tissue massage in that it is not just kneading the muscles. Instead, the therapist uses their thumbs, fingers, and palms to press deeply into your body, trying to massage the different organs under the muscles. This can help stimulate the organ to function more efficiently and reduce the ravages of disease in it.

The thing to understand about almost all Asian massage types is that they are done in a very holistic manner. The therapist wants to create harmony in your body. Regardless of the medical condition disease or illness, an Asian massage therapist strives to help. When done in conjunction with the treatments from your primary care physician, these massage techniques will reduce the amount of time it takes for you to heal and get better.
