Like many people today, I live a very stressful life and when I am not at work, I am always busy caring for my two young children. One day, I decided to get a massage at a local spa to ease my sore, aching muscles. Once I entered the salon, I realized they had a great half-day package deal that also included a manicure, pedicure, and a body wrap. I decided to go for the package and I found the experience very relaxing. My stress virtually melted away and I now take time to visit the spa every month to enjoy the package. I am eager to share my experiences with salons and spas with others who want to learn more about what they have to offer on my new blog!
Adding color to your hair helps give it dimension, youth, and a trendy appeal, and you want to always keep your hair in style. You may have gotten traditional highlights in the past, but something different in hair trends that you may want to consider is the balayage.
There are many benefits of getting this style. You can get this type of hair coloring treatment done instead of traditional highlights to really change up your look.
What is a balayage?
A balayage is a type of hair highlighting treatment where the hairstylist puts in each highlight by hand, without the use of foils and other hair-isolating techniques. The result is natural-looking highlights that are noticeable yet subtle in appearance. This is because the highlights themselves are more blended and woven through the hair rather than placed on top of the hair in a patterned or deliberately styled way.
Why get balayage over traditional highlights?
Traditional highlights are strategically placed on top of the hair so that when highlights grow out, the roots of the hair and the natural hair color underneath can be more noticeable. This can lead to more touch-ups of the highlights and you may have a choppier look to your hair as your highlights blend in.
With a balayage, the color does eventually grow out as well, but since the highlights are blended by hand, they're not as noticeable in change as a traditional highlight application might be. Think of the natural highlights you get in the summer or when you don't color your hair. A balayage is a lot like that, only more deliberate and controlled in application.
What should you bring to your balayage appointment?
A balayage can take a while to complete, so bring with you something to entertain yourself while you get your hair pampered. Bring a book, your phone, or something else to engage you while you have your hair worked on. If you can, leave children at home so you can focus just on your hair.
If you have any specific requests for your balayage appointment regarding cut, style, and hair color, let your hair colorist know in advance so they can prepare their station accordingly. Not all hair colorists cut hair, so keep this in mind as you set your balayage appointment. What you pay for your balayage is dependent upon where you live, how long the process takes, what other hair treatments you have done, and other factors. Contact a salon to make a balayage appointment.
